ZETDC sues irrigation scheme over unpaid bills

THE Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) is suing Gutai Vatema Irrigation Scheme over a $12 800 debt owed to the power distribution utility over unpaid electricity supplies to the scheme.

ZETDC filed summons at the Bulawayo High Court against the irrigation scheme last week demanding the payment of $12 899,17.

“The plaintiff’s claim is for the payment of $12 899, 17 being the amount outstanding as at February 3 2017 in respect of electricity supplied by the plaintiff to the defendant at Similingagle Farm, Chartsworth, Serima, Mvuma at the defendant’ special instance and request and which amount notwithstanding written demand on march 30 2016 defendant has failed, neglected and or refused to pay,” reads the summons.

“Interests at the prescribed rate of 5% per annum from March 30 2016 being the date of demand to date of full and final payment. Costs of suit.”

Gutai Vatema Irrigation was given 10 days to respond to the summons.

ZETDC prayed for an order compelling the irrigation scheme to settle the electricity bill and the irrigation scheme is yet to respond to the summons.
