Doctors from Harare public hospitals downed tools two weeks ago over government’s failure to honour its commitment to pay them 2016 bonuses and improve their working conditions, while nurses joined them on Tuesday over similar concerns.

Medical officers from CCH had continued attending to patients to avert a humanitarian crisis.

In a letter to CCH by Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors’ Association (ZHDA) dated March 1, government medical officers announced they have withdrawn their services to pile pressure on the government to review their working conditions.

“ZHDA would like to inform you that general medical officers will not be able to discharge their duties from March 1, 2017 until further notice,” part of the statement read.
