The man, whose identity has been withheld in order to protect the juvenile, was remanded in custody to Friday by Harare magistrate, Rumbidzai Mugwagwa, after being advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

The State alleges that sometime in 2012, but on dates unknown to the prosecutor, the suspect was at home with the girl when he took her to her mother’s bedroom and raped her once.

The State alleges the suspect again raped the minor on numerous occasions whenever their parents were away.

The matter came to light in January this year when the girl’s teacher noticed that she was always sad and that she would sometimes absent herself from school.

It is alleged the teacher called her parents and a school counsellor, leading to revelations of the alleged abuse. The matter was reported to the police, leading to the suspect’s arrest.

Sebastian Mutizirwa appeared for the State.
