As a result of the accident, a 28-year-old lady sustained injuries and police attended the scene

POLICE have dismissed speculative reports that a pedestrian knocked down by a police vehicle during a high-speed chase of a commuter omnibus along Rotten Row in Harare last Thursday, died of excessive bleeding after being left unattended.

In a statement yesterday, police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba, said contrary to reports circulating on social media platforms, police took the victim to Parirenyatwa Hospital soon after the accident.

“Circumstances are that the police vehicle, a Ford Fiesta, was travelling due south along Rotten Row when the driver knocked down a pedestrian near the intersection with Jason Moyo Avenue.

As a result of the accident, a 28-year-old lady sustained injuries and police attended the scene and as a result the lady was ferried to Parirenyatwa Hospital where she was admitted,” she said.

“The ZRP respects the sanctity of human life and the road accident was not deliberate as some people have tried to portray on social media. Follow-ups were made to Parirenyatwa Hospital to check on the victim and she has since been discharged,” she said. — Blessed Mhlanga
