The new dates of the festival, to be held under the theme Next Level, will now coincide with the last week of the Zimbabwean school holidays.

Hifa founder and artistic director, Manuel Bagorro (pictured) yesterday told NewsDay Weekender that the changes were meant for parents and students, who not only make up a large section of the audience, but are also stakeholders in terms of employment.

“The latest development is so that Hifa can happen in the last week of the first term school holidays and engage more of the public as a result. This will be good news for parents and students, as not only providing a large audience, but also stakeholders in terms of employment. A large portion of the festival’s event staff are Advanced Level and high school students,” he said

Bagorro said the festival would see a mix of new innovations meant to improve the festival experience.

“We want that experience to be safe, efficient and, above all, enjoyable and inspiring. The things we are adding to the festival are all aimed at aiding that,” he said.

The annual showcase runs a six-day festival as its flagship and involves artistes from Zimbabwe and around the globe.

At the previous edition of Hifa, 1 041 Zimbabwean artistes performed alongside 287 foreign acts.

Considered among the top festivals in Africa and the world, the fête covers six main genres, namely: theatre, dance, music, circus, applied art and design, fashion and spoken word.
