Herbert Run’anga denied the assault and domestic violence charges on Monday, when he appeared before Marondera magistrate, Tendai Muchini.

He was remanded in custody to Monday for continuation of trial after the State noted that he could not be granted bail, as he was of no fixed abode.

The State also established that Run’anga faces other counts of domestic violence and malicious damage to property filed by his wife, Ratidzo Masendo (43).

According to court records, Run’anga had a sexual encounter with Murengwa on December 1 last year on condition he would pay $20 for services rendered.

After the act, Run’anga gave Murengwa $20, but she immediately raised alarm after realising that it was not genuine currency. This incensed Run’anga, who then pummelled her, leaving her heavily bruised.

The matter was reported to the police, leading to Run’anga’s arrest.

Emmanuel Dera prosecuted the case.
