Likhwa Ngwenya (23), who has been on the run following the murder of Washington Dick in a bloody machete fight late last year, was trapped and arrested at a traditional healer’s house on Friday.

Ngwenya was remanded in custody to February 1, when he appeared before magistrate Vimbai Mutukwa, facing a murder charge.

The State, led by Patience Zamanda, alleges that on November 10, Ngwenya in the company of other unnamed accused persons, hacked Dick with machetes several times until he died near Sable Flats in Kwekwe.

Ngwenya’s cellphone was allegedly recovered at the scene and a blood-stained worksuit was also recovered from his car.

Police raided on the unsuspecting Ngwenya and caught him in the middle of rituals at a traditional healer’s house in Mbizo 16.

According to the late Dick’s wife, Margret Mhlanga, her husband met Ngwenya on the fateful night in an attempt to broker peace between the two warring factions.

Before the meeting, Dick called his wife and told her of the plans to resolve the crisis.

At the time of his death, Dick was facing an attempted murder charge for allegedly hacking Ngwenya with a machete in a previous battle.
