CASTLE Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Highlanders are planning a friendly match against Confederations of African Football Champions League winners, Mamelodi Sundowns, as part of their pre-season preparations.

The Bulawayo giants yesterday announced at their first Press conference of the year that they are scheduled to travel to South Africa for a training camp.
Acting Highlanders chairman, Modern Ngwenya, who was in the neighbouring country recently to organise the camp, said they had been in negotiations with a number of that country’s top-flight teams, including champions Sundowns, for friendly matches.
The South African league is currently on a break and will only resume on February 3.
“We may take our pre-season preparations to South Africa for a training camp, but it’s still in the planning stages. The probability is that we will go to Polokwane for between four to seven days, depending on our sponsors and how much they are prepared to go in terms of hosting us,” he said.
“We may play practice matches and friendly games against the likes of Baroka Football Club, Polokwane City and even Bloemfontein Celtic, but the match that may come to fruition is the one against Mamelodi Sundowns. It’s still in its infancy, but we are looking forward to a trip to South Africa. That will be refreshing for the players and a morale booster ahead of the start of the season.”
Bosso’s announcement of the trip came a day after another PSL side, FC Platinum, left the country for South Africa for a training camp, where they are set to play Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Bidvest Wits.

Highlanders, as well as their developmental side that campaigns in the Southern Region Soccer League, kicked off their pre-season training earlier in the week.
Ngwenya said they had managed to retain almost all of their technical and playing personnel, with Honest Moyo the only player yet to sign a new contract.
Defender Eric Mudzingwa is reportedly on trials with South African side Baroka FC.
Technical director, Cosmas Zulu, who also doubles as goalkeepers’ coach, is in charge of pre-season training in the absence of head coach, Erol Akbay and his assistant, Amin Soma-Phiri.
Akbay is still on holiday in his home country Holland, while Soma-Phiri is attending a Caf A Licence coaching course in Harare.
