In this video girls, young and older women speak on the challenges aced by most rural girls during their menstrual cycles.

The challenges include the unavailability of proper and hygienic sanitary wear such as pads, which results in some using old rags, cow dung, tree leaves and fresh grass, and these pose a health risk.

  1. During the days when Africans used to wear animal hides, there were no sanitary pads.
The blacks waited many yrs for the Europeans to come with the sanitary pads. Now am flabbergasted to hear some blacks demonising and excoriating the very same Europeans who made us to be where and what we are.
The Europeans brought tissues to Africa and prior to that, Africans used tree leaves and old newspapers.
Now, we are towards elections, politicians who want more votes in rural areas should freely distribute plenty of sanitary pads and these women will definitely vote.

  2. SANITARY PADS ARE EXPENSIVE, YET A WOMAN NEEDS $6 A MONTH TO BUY THEM.BEING UNCOMFORTABLE IN THE PRESENCE OF OTHERS IS THE WORST THING FOR A WOMAN. PLIZ HELP THESE WOMEN NOT ONLY IN RURAL BUT EVEN IN URBAN SCHOOLS YOU FIND GIRLS SPOILING THEMSELVES OR GOING THE WHOLE DAY WITH THE SAME SANITARY PAD , THEY CANT AFFORD CHANGING EVERY NOW AND THEN ,WHICH IS UNHYGIENIC.

    • I agree. This is indeed a human rights issue to me. How can we live with ourselves buying Gucci bags in Singapore when rural girls have to endure this indignity? Sad.
