Efficiency Chirwa and his accomplice, a 16-year-old juvenile, stole the vehicle from one Matsveru at a bar in the mining town early last week and used it as a pirate taxi plying the Maranda-Neshuro route in Mberengwa district.

But, Zvishavane magistrate Shepherd Munjanja dismissed their mitigation and sentenced the pair to 12 months each on theft charges.

The minor would be confined to Hwahwa young offenders prison to serve his term.

Prosecutor Stanley Ncube told the court that sometime last week the accused went to Falcon bar in Mandava suburb where they stole car keys from Matsveru.

The two drove the car to Mberengwa where they used the vehicle as a pirate taxi. They were only arrested a week later after Matsveru filed a motor vehicle theft report.
