Speaking at the handover ceremony, Thomas said: “In 2016, the embassy’s grants office has proudly awarded a total of $265 000 in grants funding diverse organisations working in nine provinces around the country.

“The Ambassador’s Self-Help Fund focuses on providing targeted grants to assist small-scale, short-term, community-driven development projects that bring about tangible and immediate improvements in people’s lives,” he said.

The organisations that were awarded grants are Magwegwe Development Trust from Bulawayo, Shearly Cripps Children’s Home in Mashonaland East and seven others.

Thomas applauded the efforts made by the selected organisations in working with the disadvantaged in their communities.

“Your good work with people living with HIV and Aids, orphans, vulnerable children, physically disabled people, women, girls, refugees and the economically disadvantaged provides a model for others to follow,” he said.
