Nkomazana, who finished the season with 14 goals, received $300 and a shield from the Southern Region Soccer League patron Raj Modi, who sponsored the awards, where Bantu Rovers were also officially crowned champions.

Bantu Rovers skipper, Bukhosi Sibanda, who travelled to South Africa with the Under-20 Young Warriors for the Cosafa tournament yesterday, was the second runner-up and received $100. Joshua Wilson was among the 11 Southern Region Soccer Star of the Year finalists.

The first runner-up, who got $150, was Bulawayo Chiefs’ Rainsome Pavari.

Bantu Rovers head coach, Johannes Ngodzo was named Coach of the Year and received $250.

Club general manager, Wilbert Sibanda said the board would be meeting next Wednesday to discuss, among other things, honouring their players for the season’s performance.

“We are meeting as a board on Wednesday next week and on the agenda will, of course, be honouring our players for the season. This week we will also be deliberating and finalising on the suspended players and meeting the coach (Ngodzo) who was sent on indefinite leave,” he said.

Bantu Rovers senior players, Zephania Ngodzo, Lindelani Ncube and Lineance Mpofu were suspended for allegedly inciting other players to go on strike demanding promotional bonuses. Among the 11 Southern Region Soccer League finalists, who each received $50 are two players from Amagagasi, Wellington Muuya and Arthur Musiya, Bosso 90’s Ray Lunga, Njabulo Mpofu of Talen Vision, Black Boots’ Tashinga Mungadze and ZPC Hwange’s Leon Ngwenya and Israel Mukahanana.

Meanwhile, Bantu Rovers were bundled out of the Joshua Mqabuko Nyongolo Trukumb Top 8 tournament when they lost 1-0 to ZRP Bulawayo at Luveve on Saturday, while Amagagasi beat Black Boots 5-4 in a penalty shootout after a goalless draw in regulation time.

Bosso 90 were also victorious beating Indlovu Iyanyathela at White City with Talen Vision beating ZPC Hwange 4-3 in a penalty shootout after the match ended 1-1 in regulation time.

Amagagasi take on ZRP Bulawayo in the semi-finals tomorrow at Hartsfield Rugby Grounds, while Bosso 90 clash with Talen Vision at the same venue before the final on Saturday.
