The performance also included a reading of a part of Members, a play produced by Amakhosi Productions 23 years ago, which discusses the political culture in the country.

The poets highlighted lack of women emancipation in the society and the storyteller touches on issues of spiritualism.

Although the play was written 23 years ago at the height of the Economic Structural Adjustment Programme, it still resonated with the audience because the issues it highlighted still relevant to this day.

The play captures the abuse of women when the character playing Member of Parliament of Bomanzi instructs his secretary, Gloria, to dance for his colleague under the ruse that he may sponsor her non-existent dance group.

The MP of Bomanzi represents legislators keen to outwit others in the race for ministerial posts rather than improve the life of their constituents.

During the post-play discussion, Amakhosi founder, Cont Mhlanga said the current generation of leaders risked being labelled failures, with the National Heroes’ Acre branded an insignificant place filled with the remains of thieves and corrupt people.

He challenged leaders to desist from a culture of individualism, which has taken a strong hold over the country and start addressing the concerns of the people.
