The Mdogo Mdogo hitmaker made the remarks to NewsDay on the sidelines of the well-attended Watora Mari Concert organised by 2 Kings Entertainment.

“The only secret to success that I can share with my fellow Zimbabwean musicians is to encourage them to be more creative and sing in their own language, and not to try to imitate foreign languages,” Diamond Platnumz said.

“Jah Prayzah is an example of what I am talking about. He is a talented musician, who uses his native language for his composition and it has done wonders for him. Rising musicians must know that everything starts from somewhere, but what is important is to be creative, work hard and not to give up, but believe in themselves.”

He said he felt at home performing at a packed venue and saluted the show organisers for a well-organised event and fans for turning up in their thousands.

“I want to thank you Zimbabweans for the support. I liked the way you support your own kids. I felt like I was at home, you should keep on supporting us in such a way,” Diamond Platnumz said.

The Uzumba-bred Jah Prayzah thanked Diamond Platnumz for showing confidence in local music and agreeing to record the Watora Mari duet off his album Mdara Vachauya, which is doing well locally and on the continent.

“I am one artiste, who believes in the power of collaborations and I was happy to work with such a talented brother (Diamond Platnumz). I will be having more duets collaborations as a way of creating new audiences as I seek to penetrate the international market,” Jah Prayzah said.

Thousands of music lovers, who attended the show, were treated to polished acts by dancehall sensation Killer T, Ex-Q, Stunner, Trevor Dondo and Extra Large, who made up the line-up of performers, who warmed the stage for Diamond Platnumz at the concert.

True to his word when he promised fireworks at the show at a Press conference a day after his arrival, Diamond Platnumz proved why he is popular across the continent, with a sterling performance.

Diamond Platnumz’s well-choreographed set wowed the crowd, despite the language barrier, as they could not sing along to the lyrics, but their gestures after every song showed their appreciation of his music.

For the first time, Diamond Platnumz and Jah Prayzah performed their duet Watora Mari live alongside Tifan Sa, who also featured on the song, much to the delight of the fans.

True to the concert’s theme, Watora Mari, the show organisers indeed had something to smile about at the end of the day, as the giant venue, with a holding capacity of 5 000 people, was packed to the rafters.
