The festival, which coincides with World Toilet Day commemorations, is set to bring together communities, schools, the private sector, academia, development agencies and government institutions to appreciate community initiatives to improve sanitation and hygiene.

Cafod country representative Verity Johnson said the two-day fete would open with a Junior Sanitation Summit where schools, mainly drawn from Murehwa and Nyanga, will spend the day engaging in discussion forums, displays and sanitation-related games.

After the summit, there will be a panel discussion that will take place in the evening where “delegates drawn from the private sector, donors, local and regional municipalities and residents’ association representatives” will deliberate on sanitation, among other key issues.

“What we need to do as a country is to put in place a sustainable sanitation service delivery structure, with a view to ensuring universal access, preventing slippage and leaving no one behind,” Johnson said The major highlight of the festival is tomorrow when there will be an exhibition of the achievements and innovations made by council, community groups and the private sector in improving sanitation service delivery.
