A total of 51 infrastructure projects are being implemented in Africa under Pida programmes at an estimated cost of $80 billion under phase one.

The Pida projects are expected to be completed by 2040 after $360bn has been invested in the infrastructure projects.

The projects were approved in January 2012 during the 18th session of the African Union and the projects are for energy, transport, water and information communication technology to address the infrastructure deficit in Africa.

The projects are aimed at increasing road access as well as creating jobs.

Pida was developed by the African Union Commission, Nepad planning and co-ordinating agency, African Development Bank, United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and Regional Economic Communities.

The first Pida week was held in Abidjan at the African Development Bank offices in Abidjan.
