Mliswa opened our eyes – MDC-T

The MDC-T says it is much wiser on how it will approach coalition talks and who it will likely partner in the 2018 general elections following its dance with Norton legislator, Temba Mliswa.

The MDC-T and Mliswa pact appears to have gone sour after the former Zanu PF Mashonaland West chairperson told Morgan Tsvangirai and his party to “go to hell” during a rally in Norton over the weekend.

Party secretary-general, Douglas Mwonzora yesterday said his party was much the wiser following the recent events and would now be using its experiences to make strategic decisions ahead of the 2018 polls.

“We went into Norton to support Mliswa with our eyes open. We went in there for our own strategic reasons and we got the result and information that we wanted,” he said. “This information is going to be used to make strategic decisions for 2018, whether we are going into elections, as a coalition or individual party.”

Mliswa’s fallout with the MDC-T has seen its critics and party supporters questioning the wisdom of the party leadership in supporting expelled Zanu PF members, who then return to the ruling party after riding on their support.

The MDC-T sided with Jonathan Moyo when he ran as an independent candidate in Tsholotsho in 2008, but the opposition was left with egg on the face when he retraced his footsteps back to Zanu PF.

Mwonzora, however, said their support for Mliswa was not tied to any conditions and they had no regrets in backing his candidacy in Norton.

“We were never duped. Our support for his candidacy was not based on the condition that he should become our member. Tsvangirai is happy that he supported his candidature, but he did not attend the celebration because for him, nothing has changed in Zimbabwe to warrant a celebration,” he said.

Mliswa said he lashed out at Tsvangirai, telling him to go to hell after his party stopped people from attending his celebration rally because their leader was snubbing him.

The outspoken legislator said he had acted out of emotion before announcing that he was backing Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa to succeed President Mugabe.

Mwonzora said, while it was not mature to be unleashing insults at others, Mliswa was offside.

“If I were Mliswa, I would not insult Tsvangirai or the MDC,” he said.

  1. let him go back to wherever he came from, nobody in this world takes Mliswa as a serious politician anyway, he’s nothing but a confused cockroach

  2. Confusion reigns in MDC.. Backing a candidate from another win a contest they have boycotted. Could have used Norton to see the strength of these new parties on their own.

  3. The interesting part is that: Muliswa will only have 1 year as legislator as he is going to be dethroned by an MDC legislator

  4. let the tortoise move ahead in the short run ,but in the long run of 2018 this man called Themba, will be kapenta ,wait and see.

  5. In 2013 a similar statement was made about being wiser after 4 years of apprenticeship, praising and campaigning for the ruling party on an international scale. Let us just embrace the bond notes as a directionless nation, until God sends us deliverance, if it be His will for us wicked people.

  6. I don’t blame the mdc at all, not even the brightest minds in politics could have ever foreseen Mliswa flip flopping back into Kasukwere’s arms so fast like that. These ‘gay gangsters’ are the greatest masters of deceit for sure

  7. MDC-T can go into the 2018 ELECTION alone,no need for coalitions,
They have the numbers, all other opposition parties are just small Boys.

  8. Suffice it to say, Zanu PF thrives not on political mastery but out of opposition weaknesses. They (opposition) hardly learn or rectify in subsequent elections only to cry foul when it is too late in the day. How can you support an opposition imposter instead of fielding your own? Mugabe never heeds the language of abstinence. Brace for a mega showdown come 2018 if you fail to retrace your political deficiencies well ahead of time. Watch out!

  9. I have always been warning people against supporting these Zanu break-away parties. Mwana wenyoka inyoka. Whether its Tekere, Dongo, Mutambara, Johnso, Dabengwa, Baba Jukwa, Temba Muriswa or even the former V P Mai Mujuru just to mention but a few. If they truly want to oppose the current regime why dont they just join the already existing opposition? Remember the ancestor once said that he has a bagfull of tricks for rigging the elections. This is one of them. Never trust an enemy just because he says he is come to your side. Most of them are spies. Lets fight our war. If we loose thats that but one day the truth shall set us free. In politics its very hard to trust anybody even yourself. Mark my word

  10. It’s a lesson to MDC-T not even to intertain zimfirst because these are tricks used by zanu pf to distabilise the mdc. zanu pf and zimfirst they are the one,mdc should use their intelligence personnel to unearth this

  11. why do these Mliswas & Mujurus first fall out with Zanu PF then become ‘saints’? MDC open your eyes! And another thing Zanu PF has a way of luring them back… to hell with all Ex-Zanu bastards

  12. Even MDC itself behaves like a toddler. they don’t even notice the tricks being played by ZANU pf. Can you see to it that ZANU pf is a serious political party as compared to MDC flipflops. Mliswa is ZANU and only exposing the existence of two factions namely Lacoste and G40. Lacoste properly thumbed G40 and from this you can see where we are heading , a lacoste govt in waiting. Truly speaking MDC still has sympathisers but most people won’t waste time to vote it into power, considering that it also danced with the enemy with only a step into office but went on to sleep . Got thumbed in the last election and a clear sign that its a party of cry babies and no meaningful policies.

  13. Much wiser yet you “won” an election and advised your president to flee the country with an “open-zip”. Much wiser yet you continue to disintergrate like an ice-cap in summer each time your president is challenged. Much wiser….

  14. If truth be told, Tsvangson aneyese. During gnu he was allocated social ministries and we all know what happened to the social welfare of Zimbos during that era compared to when its under the so called visionaries. For the first time post independence we saw health and education taking a positive trajectory.

  15. I once said it “mwana wenyoka inyoka” during the campaigning period. This is when Mliswa pleaded support from MDCT.I even talked about what happened in Tsholotsho. They wont go anyway.Save vakapenga vanodiwa nevanhu President of the people come 2018
