There is very little separating teams in this group after one round of matches, and largely regarded as the group of death, hence, Mlauzi reckons it might go down to goal difference.

“The group is very open, but we need to be in control by winning the remaining matches. We will have to go guns blazing against Egypt and score as many goals as we can because as it stands, it might go down to goal difference.

The players looked sharp and well-focused at training and are looking forward to the match,” Mlauzi said.

Zimbabwe were largely conservative against South Africa, and they can’t afford to do the same today if they are achieve their objective.

“I think Egypt will be more defensive, the same manner they played against Cameroon. I expect them to retreat to an even more compact defensive shape and so the onus will be on us to break them down. We expect to impose our possession football against a team of less technical and tactical quality. All teams in this group are beatable, it’s a question of enforcing the right tactics and mentality in all the games,” Mlauzi said.

Hosts Cameroon, who beat Egypt 2-0, lead the group with three points and play South Africa today.

Zimbabwe and South Africa share second spot on one point apiece after their opening 0-0 draw, making today’s matches must-wins for all four teams.

Egypt look like the weakling of the group following their lethargic performance against Cameroon and it appears the team that will score more goals against them stands a better chance of progressing to the semi-finals The top two teams progress to the next stage.

The Zimbabwean coach is expected to make a forced change in his team, with Emmaculate Msipa set to miss the match after catching a cold on the team’s way to Cameroon.

The midfielder struggled with her game against South Africa and trained alone yesterday, as she looks to recover from the bout of flu.

Aldigrade Bhamu is likely to be given the nod ahead of Msipa, who the coach said would start on the bench.

The two teams played a friendly match building up to the tournament, which Zimbabwe won 2-1 in Harare.

Kick-off is 8pm Zimbabwean time.
