The multi-award-winning artiste told NewsDay yesterday that plans were also underway to produce television shows featuring regional and international satirists as an addition to his trademark stand-up comedy.

“With the progressive growth of our comedy industry evident by the recognition that it is getting beyond the borders, it is high time I set my eyes on collaborations to create big African productions for an international audience,” he said.

“We have great humorous stories to tell across Africa, as they are common struggles for social democracy and economic justice that unites us from Kenya to South Africa, among other countries.”

Comrade Fatso said the local comedy scene has some motivating teachings to share with the world.

“As a way to penetrate the international market, I have to deal with universal issues like sexism and corruption that regional and international audiences can connect with as they affect people on a global level as human beings.”

Comrade Fatso has performed on different platforms across the globe.

Speaking on his recent invitation to be a host at the prestigious African Entertainment Awards (AEA) in New Jersey, United States of America, where his satirical show, Zambezi News, won the Best African Comedian award, Comrade Fatso said the development confirms the growth of the Zimbabwe comedy industry.

“Being a host at such a big awards ceremony for the second time was a great honour that presented me with great networking opportunities with leading comedians and creatives from around the world,” he said.

“It is really amazing that our Magamba projects are getting global recognition, something that gives us strength to keep on working hard. Zambezi News, set in Zimbabwe, winning such a prestigious the award shows a way forward for Zimbabwe comedy and satire.”
