Clinton will square off with Republican candidate Donald Trump whose bid is also gaining traction.

Last Friday, Clinton grabbed support of one of the crucial states — Ohio — after she was accompanied to a campaign rally by pop star Jay Z and Beyonce, a move that has attracted Afro-American voters who have not been a key constituency in previous elections.

Ohio is one of the swing States which historically decides who goes to the White House.

Thousands of supporters gathered at the Wolstein centre, where Jay Z and Beyonce, who declared their support for Clinton, wooed them with a scintillating performance.

“Thank you very much to all mothers. America needs a mother and that is why I am here,” Jay Z said.

Beyonce also declared her support of Clinton saying: “America needs to break another history. America needs a caring mother and that is why I am saying I am with her.”

The rally came at a time when Trump was hosting his campaign a few kilometres away in the city of Wilmington.

In an election year where Clinton is likely to depend on young black voters, the Ohio rally was a big boost.

Clinton’s rally came at a time her bid to win tomorrow’s election has been dented by an email scandal.

According to the FBI, during her time as State secretary, Clinton set up a private email server and a private email network for herself and her family to protect them from being accessed by the Federal government and the congress.

Trump has tried discrediting his rival using the FBI investigations, but the young Afro-American voters, who largely contributed to outgoing President Barrack Obama’s victory in 2008 have backed Clinton.

On Friday, Clinton called Beyoncé “a woman who is an inspiration to so many others” and thanked Jay Z “for addressing in his music some of our biggest challenges in the country – poverty, racism and the urgent need for criminal justice reform”.

“When I see them here, this passion and energy and intensity, I don’t even know where to begin because this is what America is my friends,” she said.

At the concert, aimed largely at urging black voters and millennials to vote, the music icons emphasised the historical significance of potentially electing the first woman as president.
