Speaking at the unveiling of the 10 houses, Muduvuri said he was going to build 1 500 units, which he would sell to people.

“I decided to give these 10 houses to First Lady because she is doing a great job of keeping orphans. In her wisdom, she can decide that the orphans can stay here,” he said.

“She can also put tenants here and take the money to run the orphanage. It is expensive to run the orphanage.” Muduvuri also acknowledged that it was a marketing plan on his part to donate to the First Lady.

“It is also a marketing strategy on my part. People will know that there are stands in Kadoma because First Lady has got houses there.

“It inspires confidence that their houses are not going to be destroyed like what happened elsewhere in the country. I have a similar project in Norton and I want to do this in most towns,” he said.

Local Government, Public Works and National Housing principal director, Joseph Mhakayakora said the project was going to help the poor and his ministry would support the initiative.

“This project sets the pace for all developers in the country. The houses are cheap. In most cases the developers sell land to people without servicing or putting any structure on it. I am glad that Muduvuri is putting core houses, which he is selling to the people at a very low price,” he said.
