The Harare giants need a victory of any margin against Chapungu to be crowned champions of Zimbabwean football regardless of the outcome of the other match between close challengers FC Platinum and Tsholotsho at Luveve Stadium.

They lead the standings with 60 points, two adrift of second-placed FC Platinum with one match left before the end of the campaign.

Chitembwe yesterday said every member of his squad was showing the desire to contribute and be part of the history-making squad.

“The players have done well so far, they know what is at stake,” he said. “They want to win games and they have shown the kind of desire any coach would want to see. I am very happy with the application since we started until now. We have a full squad and everyone wants to contribute and that is a good sign.”

Caps United welcome back captain, Moses Muchenje, who missed the 1-0 win over Ngezi Platinum due to suspension, while Tafadzwa Rusike, who limped off with an injury last Sunday, has bounced back ahead of the decisive clash. Chitembwe said their preparations had gone well and they were raring to go.

“In terms of preparations, they are going on well and we will basically use the same approach. Even if we had won it, we would still use the same approach because we have a responsibility to play and win games. So we have to make sure we execute our duties,” he said.

The Caps United gaffer saidhard work had taken them where they are and was hoping for the same attitude tomorrow. “It has been down to hard work to be where we are at this stage. We just hope on Saturday (tomorrow) we go out there and try to do the same.”

Should Caps United win the league title on Saturday, it will be the first time in 11 years since Charles Mhlauri led them to back-to-back championships in 2004 and 2005. It will also be Chitembwe’s maiden league title since he started his coaching career.
