AMHVoices: Making Tsvangirai one centre of power dangerous

Tsvangirai is not the one who is going to vote, it’s us and if he decides to rope in ZimPF leader Joice Mujuru without our blessings, then it’s a recipe for disaster

IN response to MDC-T rejects Mujuru: The need for a coalition before the 2018 elections is the way to go if Zimbabwe can be rescued from the situation it finds itself in.

However, I have two issues that I would want to raise with regard to the proposed coalition meant to unseat President Robert Mugabe in 2018.

Firstly, I quote “The party (MDC-T) has tasked the president (Morgan Tsvangirai) to deal with all issues related to coalitions and engagements.”

To me, this is very poisonous to running systems of operations in a party and, hence, government.

How can one person be given the responsibility to make such very crucial decisions?

One centre of power like Zanu PF? This is exactly what has destroyed the country.

Decision-making processes should be collective and consultative.

Tsvangirai is not the one who is going to vote, it’s us and if he decides to rope in ZimPF leader Joice Mujuru without our blessings, then it’s a recipe for disaster.

Secondly, Mujuru should not lead the coalition.

She has to go through some grilling before we have trust in her.

What we don’t want is to inherit corruption into the next government. That will be very bad for Zimbabwe. We need a corruption-free Zimbabwe.

We would rather give her a less influential position where she will be monitored so that we won’t bring Zanu PF grains into the people’s project.
