Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund (Zimdef) chief executive officer, Fredrick Mandizvidza, who is facing charges of fraud and criminal abuse of office, was yesterday remanded to November 17, when he is expected to be furnished with a trial date.

The prosecution told a Harare magistrate that investigations into the matter were now complete and the docket had been sent to National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for further management and could be available on the next remand date.

However, Mandizvidza gave notice to the State of his intention to apply for refusal of further remand if the State fails to provide the trial date.

Mandizvidza was arrested recently by Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission officers on $122 800 fraud allegations.

The allegations are that sometime in November 2015 and at Zimdef head offices in Harare, Mandizvidza connived with some officials from the Higher and Tertiary Education ministry and produced fake documents purporting that the trustee of the fund, who is the minister, had authorised and approved the purchase of 10 heavy-duty printers worth $95 800.

The suspects allegedly released the money to Wisebone Trading, a company that specialises in agro-chemicals, but the printers were not supplied.

On a different matter, Mandizvidza is accused of unlawfully and corruptly processing a $24 000 personal loan.

The State alleges as a result of the non-compliance with procedures, Zimdef suffered actual prejudice of $122 800 and nothing was recovered.

Sebastian Mutizirwa appeared for the State.
