THIS Saturday’s Chibuku Super Cup final between Ngezi Platinum and FC Platinum, set for Baobab Stadium in Ngezi, will kick off at 2pm, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) announced yesterday.

It appears the early kick-off has been necessitated by SuperSport, who will broadcast the match live.
Ngezi Platinum will be looking to clinch their first silverware in their debut season, while FC Platinum, still in with a chance to win the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title, search for a double.
Ngezi coach, Tonderai Ndiraya might have been pleased to see the match scheduled at Baobab Stadium, having been disappointed earlier with the decision by PSL to have their semi-final against Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium, despite that the platinum miners had been named as the home team, which Ndiraya found “absurd”.
The winners of the final will pocket $75 000, and a ticket to represent the country in the Caf Confederations Cup next season.
Victory for the home side would be a huge achievement and a perfect conclusion to their season, in which they started horribly and were, at one point, in danger of relegation before they hired Ndiraya, who managed to steady the ship.
The team is now on eighth position in the league, and could end higher if they win their remaining matches.

Three of Ngezi Platinum players are also in the running for the Chibuku Super Cup top goalscorer award, which has some rich pickings.
The team’s instrumental captain, Liberty Chakoroma, who scored the only goal as they beat Highlanders, as well as Terrance Dzvukamanja and Donald Teguru, are among the leading goalscorers, with two goals each.
Other candidates for the top goalscorer award, with two goals each, are Harare City’s William Manondo and FC Platinum’s Charles Sibanda.
However, the duo will not be able to add to their tally, as City are already out of the competition, while Sibanda is out of the final after being involved in a road accident after their semi-final victory.
FC Platinum won this competition two years ago and they know the benefits that come with success.
The Zvishavane-based side still have a chance of winning the league title, as they are second, two points behind log leaders Caps United with two matches to play.
