OPPOSITION Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) leader Joice Mujuru has reportedly sanctioned the sacking of former Information deputy minister, Bright Matonga from the party, NewsDay has learnt.

Informed sources told this paper that Matonga was expelled a few weeks ago on charges of spying.
“Matonga was expelled a few weeks ago after being accused of being a spy for the military and especially for a faction of Zanu PF associated with Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa,” a ZimPF source said.
This comes amid reports that the late ZimPF Masvingo provincial chairperson, Kudzai Mbudzi, died with the axe hanging over his head for allegedly fanning factionalism.
“Mbudzi was also going to be expelled on charges of fanning factionalism in the party. He was working with (Dzikamai) Mavhaire, but the latter had shown some sort of contrition. Mbudzi was due to appear before a tribunal, but unfortunately died,” another source said.
Matonga would neither deny nor confirm he had left the party.
“You got me at a wrong time. I am at a funeral,” he said.

ZimPF spokesperson, Jealousy Mawarire would neither confirm nor deny the alleged purge of party members.
“Participation in party activities is voluntary and when Matonga used to actively participate, he would do so out of his volition and it’s only fair to contact him to explain his situation today,” Mawarire said.
“What I can only confirm is that he has been conspicuously absent from all the provincial rallies held by the president and other official party meetings, but I have not inquired from him to ascertain why he has not been able to attend any one of the rallies or official party meetings.”
Mawarire, however, denied reports that Mbudzi died when a process to expel him was underway.
