The duo’s alleged accomplices, Taurai Makata, Obey Chakacha and Tinashe Hakunavanhu were all acquitted at the close of the State’s case after the court ruled there was no evidence warranting their prosecution.

In the matter, Kebab is accused of conniving with Blumears to stage-manage Taglan Hosvep’s arrest on trumped-up charges in a bid to steal his cash.

The court heard the incident occurred on March 29 when Hosvep, who was allegedly carrying $85 000 in his bag, went to Blumears residence with the intention of buying an excavator.

Upon arrival at Blumears’ home in Mt Pleasant, Hosvep was told the excavator would arrive in 40 minutes and, in the meantime, he waited in his car.

However, three hours elapsed before the excavator turned up and Hosvep gave up waiting.

But, as he was about to leave, a car suddenly appeared and three men jumped out, identified themselves as police officers.

The bogus cops then accused Blumears of supporting Team Lacoste, a Zanu PF faction reportedly linked to Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

They also accused him of dealing in drugs and minerals after one of the suspects planted some capsules in his jacket before requesting to search him.

Zviitwa then suddenly appeared at the scene and pretended he wanted to assist Hosvep by liaising with the bogus detectives who had already handcuffed the complainant.

The bogus cops then removed the handcuffs and took his bag, which had the money and some mobile phones.

Zviitwa is represented by Rekai Maposa, Blumears by Admire Rubaya, while Makata, Chakacha and Hakunavanhu were represented Bevin Bopoto.

Ephraim Zinyandu appeared for the State.
