In a letter addressed to the club president, Patrice Motsepe, Dynamos president, Keni Mubaiwa, said the Brazilians had done the southern region proud by lifting the prestigious trophy.

“We write to congratulate you on winning the Caf Champions League. We were closely following the games and we had no doubt that you were going to be the champions. You have done the Southern African region proud and, as your counterpart, all we can say is we are proud of you.

“Kindly allow us to take this opportunity to wish you success at the Fifa Club World Cup to be played in Japan. The whole of Africa will be solidly behind you,” the letter reads.

Sundowns, who are home to Zimbabwean forward, Khama Billiat, are the second South African club to win the Champions League after Orlando Pirates.

More importantly, the success has put Billiat in a very strong position to win the best player based in Africa award and if achieved, he will become the first Zimbabwean to scale those heights.
