Party secretary-general, Douglas Mwonzora said the delay in sentencing councillor, Tungamirai Madzokere, Yvonne Musarurwa, Lazarus Maengahama and Phineas Nhatarikwa was standing in the way of a Supreme Court appeal.

“We have indicated that we will appeal against the conviction of our supporters and we had expected to have filed the appeal by now after Justice Bhunu promised to deliver sentence in two weeks, it’s now almost two months now and we are still waiting,” he said.

Mwonzora said while there is no set time for the judge to deliver sentence, the time should be reasonable.

“The two weeks, which he had promised to deliver the sentence, was reasonable, but we are now getting into two months and this is becoming unreasonable,” he said.

MDC-T president, Morgan Tsvangirai is on record dismissing the conviction as a political judgment, which had no place in justice delivery.

Mwonzora said Tsvangirai was yet to visit the party members, who are being held at Chikurubi maximum prison awaiting sentence, although his office has begun the application process.

“Our office is handling the application process and hopefully he will be able to visit them soon, but some senior party officials, including myself, have visited and I have briefed Tsvangirai, they are hopeful and in high spirits,” he said.
