In a Facebook post meant to celebrate African culture and traditions often associated with pagan systems in the West, Zimbabwe’s own mbira princess said she was proud of her culture.

I’m not ashamed of my culture. Its aesthetic value, to me, is very precious and cannot be ignored just because … when people see me wearing traditional headgear they think you are pagan” she said.

“On a brighter note, if I were a traditional healer, I would make a very hot one, isn’t it? Clients left, right and centre!”

The Facebook remarks were accompanied by Masike’s picture taken while she was clad in the traditional headgear made of bird feathers tied together with a beaded band, known in Shona t as ngundu, and usually worn by traditional healers.

In the picture, Masike is looking up to the sky as if seeking divine inspiration, with her black eyelashes blending well with her beaded dreadlocks flowing down her bare back.
