Following the release of his collaboration song, Ebenezer — Tiri Munyasha, Chivaviro struck a rich vein that has seen him bagging awards and receiving nominations at home and abroad.

The South Africa-based artiste told NewsDay yesterday he was overwhelmed by the latest nomination, which came after scooping another award at the inaugural Trumpet Africa Gospel Music Awards (Tagma) held at Pretoria State Theatre in the same country.

“This is a great honour capping a great year for us in the music industry. God’s favour has certainly been with us this year and, indeed, we say Ebenezer’s nomination to the Crown means a lot,” he said.

“This is the most prestigious gospel awards event in South Africa, where the ‘who is who’ of South African gospel music gather together. Rubbing shoulders with those international icons is certainly a privilege. We pray that maybe this time, we may come home with the crown, but that is just a bonus. The nomination itself means a lot to us.”

Chivaviro said his prayer was to see the same grace opening doors for other Zimbabwean artistes.

“I believe this also puts Zimbabwean gospel music on the map. If one looks at what others like Takesure (Zamar), Thembalami, and (Michael) Mahendere, among others, are doing outside our borders, it is commendable.”

Nominations for Salt Award and Best Community Outreach by a Church were still outstanding, while the Lifetime Achievement Award would be given out on the awards night.
