A brainchild of fine art exponent, Tendai Michelle Mufunda, the festival is aimed at showcasing works by local female artistes.

She said the fiesta will feature live performances by Afro-jazz sensations Selmor Mtukudzi, Tariro neGitare, Edith WeUtonga and Tambarimba Marimba group.

Mufunda told NewsDay yesterday that the festival would showcase different arts and crafts with a percentage of the proceeds going to charity.

“As female artistes, we face challenges to make a breakthrough in this male-dominated industry that we hardly get the opportunity to showcases our talents at live concerts,” she said.

“This festival is mainly focused on showcasing works by women, and various aspects of Zimbabwean culture, with live demonstrations of stone carving, painting and food preparation with wine tasting and traditional food sampling being some of the activities at the festival.”

Mufunda said as an African female artiste operating in a male-dominated sector, she had realised that there is need for a platform for women to showcase their work.

She said if resources permit, she wants the festival to be a hub of information dissemination on Zimbabwean culture, with artistes converging to showcase crafts, wares and gifts that speak to Zimbabwean culture.

Mufunda has exhibited at various events locally and internationally, showcasing her works that evolve from pure aesthetic, to social commentary mainly linked with humanitarian causes and community development.
