TRANSPARENCY International Zimbabwe (TI-Z) has expressed concern over the manner in which the Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund (Zimdef) scandal is seemingly being trivialised and reduced to tribal and Zanu PF factional fights, saying the due process of law must prevail.

Higher Education minister Jonathan Moyo and his deputy Godfrey Gandawa were implicated in the scam exposed by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc), where top officials were allegedly milking the State institution for purposes divergent from its core mandate.
Moyo has invoked tribalism and factional fights in his defence, as he claimed there were some tribalists and Zanu PF senior officials, who were out to get him on factional grounds.
His defence has also stirred heated debate, with some buying into his allegations, while others say he must face the music and stop using lame excuses.
“It is our view that this attitude towards a very serious exposé of corruption shows lack of political will on the part of authorities to deal with it. It also confirms some of the statements we made recently on how participants in corruption are dealt with differently. A thief is a thief and the law of the land must prevail,” TI-Z director, Mary-Jane Ncube said. “Whistleblowing has happened and instead of shooting Zacc and other institutions, they must deal with the information provided. If (Zacc commissioner, Goodson) Nguni has his issues, they must open a docket against him too. You cannot dismiss the evidence that seems very precise.”
