Marshall Thabo Ncube was not asked to plead when he briefly appeared before magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure who granted him $30 bail and remanded the matter to September 5.

The court heard that on August 27 this year, the police officer Rutendo Musarurwa (28) was patrolling the city centre when he saw Ncube and his alleged six male accomplices assaulting one Khayelihle Mazwi.

Musarurwa rushed to the scene in a bid to rescue the woman and arrest the suspects.

In a fit of rage, Ncube allegedly turned to the police officer and assaulted him. He was then arrested, but his alleged accomplices managed to escape from the scene and were still at large.
