VIVA Zimbabwe founder, Acie Lumumba, who is accused of undermining President Robert Mugabe’s authority, yesterday accused the State of concentrating on a single area of his remarks, thereby distorting his utterances.

Lumumba, real name William Gerald Mutumanje, said the State was just sticking on the part where he said “Robert Mugabe f*** you”.

He made the remarks during cross-examination by prosecutor Oscar Madhume following submission of his Constitutional Court referral application last week.

“The part was said in the context of a full statement and was an expression, not an insult, but you are choosing to stick to four words distorting what I am alleged to have said,” he said.

The State alleges Lumumba is quoted to have said: “Mr Robert Gabriel Mugabe f*** you, I’m drawing the red line, our kids are in trouble so it’s a red line. I know my name is Lumumba Lumumba, Lumumba.”

The State also alleges he further said: “I’m someone’s child, a war veteran’s child. Touch me, you can touch me, but I hope you live long because God forbid, if something happens and you leave, your kids will be touched too.”

He described the words “f*** you” as a strong term saying there was no literal way of explaining it.

“It means disdain, unpleasantly and it was political drama. It meant I do not approve the way Mugabe is running the country,” he said.

Magistrate Vakai Chikwekwe is expected to deliver his ruling tomorrow.
