Mubhawu is facing contempt of court charges after he allegedly chased his wife from their matrimonial home last month. She is now staying with a relative.

During cross-examination by defence lawyer Tungamirai Chakurira, Moline told the court that Mubhawu verbally abused her on July 6, but in her recorded statement she indicated that the offence was committed on June 5.

When asked to explain the discrepancies, Moline blamed stress for the mix-up. Chakurira said Mubhawu did not chase Moline from home, but she left on her own.

Chakurira then produced a letter from Justice for Children’s Rights addressed to Moline in which the former MP was begging her to come home for the sake of the children.

Moline admitted receiving the letter, but denied the reasons given by Mubhawu. She said the letter was issued when Mubhawu had injured her during a domestic fight and she had gone to her parents’ home to recuperate.

Moline further said during her absence, Mubhawu left the matrimonial home and rented a house in Hatfield after leaving their three children aged 12, 10 and eight years unattended.

While Moline said she slept in a ditch on the night Mubhawu chased her away, the police outline indicated the complainant went to a friend’s house.

Magistrate Vakai Chikwekwe remanded the matter to today for continuation of trial.

Chrispen Chikafu appeared for the State.
