The arrest of the suspects – Chris Kadungure alias Boiter Makiyi (46) and Kelvin Makiyi (26) – brings the total number of suspects rounded up over the heist to six, following the arrest of Dickson Morosi, Kundai Makwarimba, Fortune Sibanda and Bekezela Masuku, who are all in custody.

Provincial magistrate Tendai Mahwe remanded the two to today for bail hearing.

According to the State, the suspects knew Pervaiz was transporting cash from his shop to his house in Belvedere and hatched a plan to rob him.

Makwarimba and Sibanda are said to be stationed at Harare Central Police Station and Police Protection Unit Escorts at Morris Depot respectively, while Morosi’s brother, who is still at large, is also a policeman.

Acting in connivance and in pursuance to their plan, they are alleged to have driven in a silver Toyota Spacio and a Honda Fit and waylaid their victim along Hudson Road in Belvedere.

The State alleges when they mounted the fake roadblock, the two officers were wearing police uniforms and traffic reflective sleeves.

“As the complainant approached the ‘roadblock’ while driving his Toyota Runix, he was flagged down by the gang and he complied,” part of the court papers read.

The State alleges they forcibly pulled out his car keys from the ignition, searched his vehicle and found a black satchel that was at the back passenger seat and demanded to know its contents.

One of the suspects then opened the satchel, found cash amounting to $56 800 and they suddenly grabbed the bag and jumped into their getaway car driving off at high speed.

Sebastian Mutizirwa appeared for the State.
