ZANU PF political commissar Saviour Kasukuwere yesterday read the riot act on Norton party members who threatened to back independent candidate Temba Mliswa in the forthcoming by-election in protest over alleged rigging in last week’s party primary elections.

His visit came as some losing candidates claimed that Ronald Chindedza had fraudulently won the internal party polls to represent Zanu PF in a by-election against Mliswa.
Kasukuwere ordered the disgruntled candidates to “bury their differences and move forward by supporting the winning candidate”.
“The candidates themselves after some deliberations agreed to bury their differences and move forward by supporting the winning candidates in the by-elections,” Kasukuwere later told NewsDay.
He dismissed Mliswa as a “confused politician who is jumping from one constituency to another looking for a job”.
“Mliswa has no chance. He is a confused politician who is desperately looking for a job as a Member of Parliament. Recently, he was in Hurungwe West and now we have him here in Norton. Who knows tomorrow after the imminent defeat he will contest in Bulawayo,” Kasukuwere said.
But, Mliswa hit back saying: “The very fact that Kasukuwere finds the time to make unprovoked comments about me clearly illustrates the level of panic and anxiety that he harbours that the party will once again be standing against me and this time in Norton.

“Hurungwe West can never be a gauge for my popularity as that election was blatantly marred by rigging, violence, intimidation and vote buying as was evidenced by the findings of the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission in their report on the situation. Furthermore, Kasukuwere would do well to remember that during the election for the post of (Zanu PF) provincial chairperson for Mashonaland West, I received overwhelming votes from Norton.”
