The seat fell vacant after Munacho Mutezo was expelled from Zanu PF for allegedly supporting former Vice-President Joice Mujuru. Letina is expected to face Nokhutula Matsikenyere and little-known Taisen Dube and John Gwitira.

By last Sunday when Zanu PF Manicaland hosted its extraordinary provincial co-ordinating committee meeting to vet candidates, dates for the primaries had not yet been set.
