Popularised at Harare’s City Sports Bar, the jam sessions are now held every Wednesday night at Cecil Hotel in Bulawayo.

Artistes like Republic of Raggz, Brenda, Sgee, Tradley B, CJ and Natasha on Wednesday left fans clamouring for more after the never-been-heard of artistes staged their first ever live performances last Wednesday.

Donna N, who was one of the hosts, said she was delighted by the number of people who turned out for the jam sessions.

“This is the beginning of good things. I am happy to see locals supporting this initiative. A number of artists are queuing to perform and every artiste will get their chance to showcase their talent,” she said.

“This was what Bulawayo lacked, a platform to showcase what we can do every fortnight. Fans should not taste our music when we curtain raise for an international artiste only. We can do this on our own and we have done it for two weeks and the sessions continue to grow with each and every meeting.”

Reggae artiste, Gabz Fire, set the stage on fire with his chants accompanied by a well-choreographed act with the backing of a live band.

One of the organisers Nkue Nkala, popularly known as Khuliyo, in the music circles, said the event has done well in a short stint.

“In just two weeks we have seen a lot of young artists coming through and showing us that Bulawayo has a lot to offer but lacked a platform like this. This will grow our industry as musicians experiment new avenues every fortnight, the next event will be held at the newly opened Club 263 formerly Cloud 9,” Khuliyo said.

The first session saw live performances from seasoned musicians Jeyz Marabini, Nkwali, Sandra Ndebele and young artists Mzoe 7, Guluva Se7en and Thabbz.
