Thabani Ncube was medically examined by two Khami Prison doctors at the court’s request.

Ncube (27) was not asked to plead to the charge of malicious damage to property when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure yesterday.

Two medical reports compiled by Dr Zivo Kunemba and Dr Raymond Madzivanyika confirmed Ncube was mentally ill and as such could not stand trial.

“He is mentally unstable and is not fit to stand trial,” read both medical reports.

The findings prompted Mashavakure to order that Ncube be referred to Mlondolozi Mental Health Institution for assessment.

Allegations against Ncube were that on August 12 this year, he went to the Bulawayo Central Police Station courtyard and took an iron bar at the main gate before proceeding to the CID Scenes of Crime offices where he damaged the door with the iron bar.

He then went to the CID Law and Order section where he also destroyed 10 window panes and some records in the office before police officers managed to arrest him.

Ncube’s relative, Bekithemba Ncube, told the court his family was not aware of his whereabouts until they were informed of his arrest.

Bekithemba said Ncube used to work as a ranger at a local research station.
