The country’s second largest mobile operator, NetOne is on course to meet its 2 300 target after building 2 190 base stations since January as it expands its reach.

The mobile operator yesterday launched its base station trail dubbed the “Igniting Mbiri Yedu Trail” which kicked off with setting up a base station in Nyanga at a cost of about $250 000.
The campaign is part of its phase two construction of base stations which targets 2 300 by year-end.
Phase three of the base station launch would start in January 2017 with targeting 3 000 LTE base stations.
Speaking at the launch of the event yesterday in Nyanga, NetOne acting chief executive officer Brian Mutandiro said they will be opening at least 11 base stations.
“We will be opening at least 110 base stations and will be carrying out various activities in line with the 20-year celebrations where you as our customers will be rewarded for your loyalty to NetOne,” Mutandiro said.

“… NetOne also recorded the lowest number of inactive subscribers in comparison to other networks. While our competition has over 50%, NetOne’s figure of inactive subscribers stands at 19%, which is a confirmation of confidence Zimbabweans are building around the NetOne brand.”
He said subscriber base grew to four million as at December 2015 from a previous of 2,5 million recorded over the same timeframe in 2014.
NetOne has installed at least seven base stations in Nyanga.
The mobile operator seeks to increase its subscriber base through its “Igniting Mbiri Yedu Trail”, setting up the first base station in ICT minister Supa Mandiwanzira’s constituency.
