Regime change is our right, President

AMH Voices
Regime change is something Zimbabweans have a right to each time they go to elections.

Countless times, we read and hear President Robert Mugabe and Zanu PF fundamentalists accusing pro-democracy activists and opposition parties of being used by Western countries to effect regime change in Zimbabwe.

Is driving the regime change agenda a crime?

Regime change is something Zimbabweans have a right to each time they go to elections. It is enshrined in our statutes and laws. Zanu PF must never try to fool us. We are entitled to regime change. When we go to elections, we are given a choice — a choice to vote for a candidate we want to lead us — choice to reject Zanu PF and its leader. We do not go to polls to endorse Zanu PF and Mugabe’s misrule.

Ours is a multi-party democracy. It’s not a one-party State. By that it means any party, if voted into power, must assume State governance. It happened in countries like Malawi, Zambia and others on the African continent. Zimbabwe must not be an exception.

We hear of many people being called agents of regime change simply because they are in opposition formations or have defected from Zanu PF.

War veterans, who questioned Mugabe’s leadership, are the latest to be labelled regime change agents – not to mention those being accused of cyber crimes. Zanu PF must stop this intimidation. Whether Mugabe likes it or not, regime change is coming. We do not need anyone to tell us to change this regime. We are tired of its violence, corruption, disregard of our national laws and human rights abuses.

Zanu PF and its supporters must not behave as if it has title deeds of running this country. They must not talk as if they are the only ones with enough knowledge to run the country because the opposite is there for all to see.

More than 36 years of Zanu PF rule has destroyed this country. It has reduced the country to ashes. When we cry for regime change, Mugabe must know it’s because he has let the nation down.

People must stick to their regime change agenda – there is nothing illegal about that. As the 2018 elections are coming, all democracy-loving Zimbabweans must come together and peacefully effect regime change.
