AMHVoices: It’s time for Mugabe to resign

AMH Voices
It is high time President Robert Mugabe swallowed his pride and resign before it is too late. It’s obvious that the people are tired of his incapability, laziness and sleeping while in office.

During your time of Presidency, thousands were massacred during Gukurahundi until 1987, citizens died of hunger after your land-grabbing programme of 2000, citizens lost their houses and property due to the so-called Operation Murambatsvina of 2005, many died during Operation Hakudzokwi in the Chiadzwa diamond fields, people lost jobs due to indigenisation and thousands were killed and displaced in the 2008 runoff election.

People need jobs, but companies are closing. They need food, shelter and freedom which you have denied them for the past 36 years.

Early this year, liberation war veterans were teargassed by the riot police at the City Sports Centre in Harare because they had opened their eyes and seen the incapability in you.

You dismissed their leader Christopher Mutsvangwa, arrested war veterans’ association spokesperson Douglas Mahiya, secretary-general Victor Matemadanda, and their political commissar Francis Nhando, among others, as they demanded your exit.

The messages of all the protesters are clear: #Tajamuka, #ThisFlag, #ThisGown, #MyZimbabwe and the war veterans are all demanding you to go.

On Saturday August 13, the MDC-T demonstrators led by president Morgan Tsvangirai were in Gweru with these messages: Where is our $15 billion? Where is Itai Dzamara? Mabasa acho aripi (Where are the promised jobs?), Demilitarise college campuses and Mugabe must go.

On that same day the Zimbabwe People First team of Joice Mujuru, Didymus Mutasa, Rugare Gumbo and Dzikamai Mavhaire, among others, joined the demonstrators demanding you to go.

I personally urge you to step down before it is too late because time will come when your wife and children will join others in demanding you to step down.
