Nyoni replaced David Tito nine minutes after the break and a minute later his team surged ahead with a goal from Clever Mutendeure.

Coming into this match the top-flight newcomers had only scored four goals from 17 matches and odds were heavily stacked against them.

Dynamos had not conceded a goal in their previous eight matches, but their defence was breached twice by the basement side, who have now collected 10 points.

Mutendeure took advantage of confusion between Dynamos defenders Marshall Machazani and Godknows Murwira to fire past goalkeeper Tatenda Mukuruva.

Masimba Mambare levelled matters with a beauty six minutes later to light up Dulivhadzimo where Dynamos enjoyed more support than the home team.

With a sense of stalemate seemingly setting, in came the Nyoni goal.

The tall striker, who gave the Dynamos defence a run for their money, received an inch-perfect pass from fellow substitute Tambwe Kalunga before striking a volley that left Mukuruva a spectator.

The goal triggered panic in the Dynamos camp with the fans also silenced and disbelieving as the Harare giants faced their fifth defeat of the season.

The first half of the game was uneventful though Dynamos were more superior in possession forcing four corners which were easily repelled by the home team defence marshalled by captain Michael Varriso.

An impressive Talent Sande, in goals for the home team, denied Mambare a close range header in the 27th minute before parrying for a corner, a wicked curling Ocean Mushure free kick.

Sande saved another point blank shot from Denver Mukamba at 43 minutes, while on the other side Farai Mususunye beat Mukuruva at 47 minutes, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

The second half was event packed and Dynamos striker Dominic Mukandi was shown red for slapping Strikers defender Ephraim Mwinga in an off the ball incident.

Dynamos coach Lloyd Mutasa conceded that Border Strikers showed more hunger than his team.

“We failed to guard our blind side and Strikers punished us. They were hungrier and they deservedly beat us,” he said.

Mutasa felt Mwinga exaggerated things when he fell to the ground to get Mukandi sent off.

Strikers coach Never Malunga said the victory was a morale booster for his team who are fighting relegation.

“We deserved to win and we will take the battle to our opponents to survive,” Malunga, whose team is relegation haunted at 10 points from 18 games during which it won three drew one and lost 14, said.

Border Strikers still sit at the bottom of the log despite the win, but will be looking ahead to future challenges with more confidence.

Before yesterday they had last won against Harare City last month, but had only scored one goal in the five matches preceding the Dynamos match.
