Chirimuuta was not asked to plead when he appeared before magistrate Tendai Mahwe last week facing an attempted murder charge and was remanded to July 29 pending trial.

According to the State, the incident occurred on Tuesday last week when the complainant in the matter, Mpumela Kenneth (45), and Chirimuuta had a dispute at the corner of Jason Moyo Avenue and Leopold Takawira Street.

The State alleges Kenneth stepped in front of Chirimuuta’s vehicle and the latter then drove towards him, threatening to knock him down.

When it became imminent that Chirimuuta would crush him, Kenneth jumped onto the bonnet and hung on it as the former continued driving along Jason Moyo Avenue.

Chirimuuta eventually stopped his vehicle and Kenneth jumped off and reported the matter to the police, leading to the accused’s arrest.

Sebastian Mutizirwa prosecuted.
