In an interview with NewsDay on the sidelines of the final phase of the auditions that commenced yesterday at the trust’s offices in Harare, pageant spokesperson, Tendai Chirau said they can only disclose a date if they get their targeted number of potential candidates who meet their requirements.

“If we do not get the best girls in our final selection, we will not hold the pageant. We cannot waste our resources to go ahead to host the pageant if we do not have the talent,” he said.

“When we are done with the auditions probably that is when we will be able to announce the date for Miss World Zimbabwe with other developments to follow.”

In what has been described as a desperate measure by its followers, the pageant organisers have called for members of the public to help in finding a lady of virtue who they think can win the title and standing a chance to pocket $2 000.

Chirau has, however, insisted that they are not under pressure ahead of the nine-day deadline left for registration for the World pageant, saying it can be extended.

“We are moving according to script and we are not under pressure at all as we are in touch with Miss World pageant organisers,” he said.

“Those who missed the scouting process held in Harare and Bulawayo can still come in for the selection, as long as they meet the requirements and have not posed nude, as we are looking for about 25 girls for the boot camp.”

Meanwhile, emotions overcame some of the aspiring contestants who showed up and failed to make the grade at the on-going final phase of the auditions yesterday at Miss Zimbabwe Trust offices in Eastlea.

This year’s edition will see more than 100 countries vying for the coveted title of Miss World 2016. Of the participating nations excluding Zimbabwe, more than 50 countries have already crowned their representatives.

Outgoing Miss World Mireia Lalaguna from Spain will crown her successor on December 20 in Washington DC, which will be hosting the pageant for the second time.
