Eden Muchaya of Budiriro, Harare will, however, serve 10 years in jail after magistrate Sandra Mupindu suspended three years of his sentence on condition of good behaviour.

The court heard that on June 12, Muchaya visited his friend Albert Makaha’s house in Budiriro.

The court was told during discussions, Makaha indicated that the complainant, an 18-year-old woman, had visited their church and appealed for assistance in securing a job.

Muchaya then told Makaha that his mother was looking for a maid. Following the misrepsentation, Muchaya obtained the complainant’s cellphone number and immediately arranged to meet her the following day in Mbare.

When Muchaya eventually met the complainant, he claimed that he would accompany her to his mother’s house later in the evening after work.

At around 6pm, Muchaya took the complainant to his house under the false guise that his mother stayed there. He then left her alone at the

house and came back three hours later, switched on his radio to muffle her screams and raped her.

The complainant left the house the following day and narrated her ordeal to Makaha, who then advised her to report the matter to police.

Gwinyai Shumba appeared for the State.
