Tichaona Kamhande made the confession while responding to an application for a protection order made against him by his former lover Joylene Mungwazha.

Mungwazha had told presiding magistrate Trevor Nyatsanza that Kamhande was in the habit of insulting her and damaging her wares from where she sells.

“At one point he came to my vending table and dragged me, calling me a whore,” Mungwazha said.

Mungwazha further told the court that Kamhande was harassing her because she no longer conducted business with him.

“We used to do our vending business together, but I have since stopped working with him only for him to start abusing me,” she said.

In his response, however, Kamhande started by indicating that he wanted to set the record straight first before he went on to expose the pair’s adulterous affair.

“This woman is somebody’s wife, but we were involved in an intimate relationship which resulted in her falling pregnant by me,” Kamhande said.

The court further heard Mungwazha had lied to Kamhande about her marital status when they first met.

“When I first met her and started working with her, she did not tell me that she was married,” Kamhande said. “When I later found out, I decided to get my own wife.”

Kamhande told the court that their problems began when he told Mungwazha to start doing business on her own because he (Kamhande) was now married and wanted to work with his wife.

“I gave her $50 to start her own business, but she said she was going to use the money to feed my child,” Kamhande said.

Mungwazha was quick to deny the affair, saying Kamhande was just a workmate.

The magistrate granted the order in favour of Mungwazha.
