This is not the first time Zvirweki has featured on a gospel project after recording a duet titled Mukuru WeVakuru with rising gospel singer Nicholas Chirunga last year. Zvirekwi joins former Black Rhinos player Lazarus “Mali” Muhoni, who is also involved in music with the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) Voice of Sakubva Choir, as footballers that have swopped their boots for the mic.

Zvirweki, who is inspired by celebrated American gospel singer, Donnie McClurkin and Sebastian Magacha, confirmed to NewsDay that he featured on the video and promised that more projects were in the pipeline.

“For many, it might come as a surprise, but for those who know me from church, it is not something new since I am in the praise and worship team of Waterfalls’s Kairos Community Church International,” he said.

“This is my second recording and it is just the beginning. I am able to compose songs and I have many that are in the basket and when the right time comes I will definitely record them.”

On the forthcoming DVD album, Mhere featured sungura musician, Alick Macheso’s lead dancer, Majuicy, born Selemani Mpochi, on the video of the song Simba.

On his previous DVD, Nguva Yenyasha, Mhere roped in the services of hilarious comedian, Sabhuku Vharazipi on video of the song Ziya Rangu.

The award-winning Mhere told NewsDay yesterday that some scenes for the DVD, directed by Willard “Slimaz” Magombedze, were shot in Mozambique and Botswana.

“We are done with the shooting of our Double Double DVD album that will carry seven videos, which carry deep worship messages and reflect on social and Biblical issues. We have added two new songs to the project,” he said.

“We featured Majuicy on the DVD as a way of adding more choreography to our dances while, at the same time showing unity among artistes, as the dancer is well known in the sungura genre. Zvirweki is demonstrating his vast talent as a musician off the football pitch.”
